NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a man for gunshot wounds at the scene in Merrylands West, Sydney, but he died at the scene. ^[1] Police in Sydney are investigating a second possible mistaken identity killing at the hands of organised crime in less than 48 hours. ^[2] New South Wales police said they were investigating whether a man shot dead in western Sydney was a victim of mistaken identity, in what could be the second such case in less than 48 hours. ^[3] A day before the Merrylands West shooting, university student Marco Tapia was killed inside his home in Glen Alpine, Sydney. ^[4] Emergency services were called to a home in Merrylands West, Sydney, at about 3:15pm after reports that a man had been shot in the driveway. ^[5] Police believe the shooting in Merrylands West, Sydney, is the latest escalation in gangland violence. ^[6] Det Supt Simon Glasser said the victim of the Wednesday shooting has no links that police are aware of to organised crime, however he has associated with people that reside at the address. ^[7] On Wednesday at about 15:15 local time, emergency services rushed to a home in Merrylands West after reports a man in his 40s had been targeted in a drive-by shooting, and he died at the scene. ^[8] Police say the Tuesday shooting appears to be an innocent life taken by organised crime while Wednesday's fatal attack may have targeted the wrong person. ^[9]
