The Finance Commission of Mexico's Chamber of Deputies proposed increasing beer taxes by 60 cents to 1 peso per unit to fund the 2027 budget package.

The Chamber of Deputies of Chile approved the Extraordinary Child Support Bonus on September 2, 2026. The beverage industry reported that 44.2% of distilled spirits consumed in Mexico come from the informal market, resulting in an estimated annual tax evasion of 19.5 billion pesos. The Wine and Liquor Industry Commission (CIVyL) recommended replacing the current ad valorem tax system with an ad quantum model based on pure alcohol content per liter.

Vanessa López, a member of the Chamber of Deputies, stated that beer accounts for 63% of alcohol volume but only contributes 33% of tax revenue in the sector. The approved bonus will be paid as a single amount of 30,000 Chilean pesos per child. The program targets children under the age of 13 living in the 80% of households with the highest vulnerability.

The legislation was expanded to include children in foster care and newborns born to vulnerable mothers.
